Viborgvej

Viborgvej is located where the road from the town of Skive’s origins led with the bridge over the Karup river and towards Viborg. The area up to the river was difficult to build on, as it was characterized by river delta and lichen meadow. Towards the bridge, the road becomes Østerbro, where the actual river delta was.

A section of the road was previously called Jernbanegade, as Skive’s original main train station was located on the east side of Karup Å, to avoid the difficult construction work across the river.

In 1912,Viborgvej 1 became the site of Margarinefabrikken Dania with the director’s residence to the east. From 1942 to 1952, the buildings housed Lervarefabrikken Dania, then GYRO took over. Dahl Pedersen from Volvo took over in 1972 and in 1973 the original factory building from 1912 was demolished to make way for a modern car showroom. The building along Engvej is still standing and is part of Toyota, which has operated a car dealership and workshop from the address since the mid-80s. The director’s residence was demolished in the mid-nineties.

Viborgvej 7 Vikan acquired the site in 1944. In the mid-fifties, the first stage of the factory building designed by H. Toft Hansen, followed by the 2nd stage in 1960. In 1969, Vikan moved to the new industrial area on Rævevej and Skive Municipality took over the buildings for the BOMI training workshop.

The road is still today a central road for traffic in Skive, and in 2024 it is characterized by gas stations, car dealerships and mechanics.

The main train station was built in the 1880s and demolished in 1962, after a major reorganization of the railway in and around Skive. Which is why the entire road is now called Viborgvej.
