“Thorum gl. Købmandsgård” on Sølvvej 38 is housed in the old general store built in 1903.
The store closed in 1976, and after a few years as a grocery store etc. the building was taken over by Sundsøre Municipality and stood empty 1994-96.
A local interest group bought the property in 1996 for DKK 1, and with foundation support and volunteer labor, the building was rebuilt and converted into a cultural center, with a local history archive from 2000 in the old grocery section from 1950.
Since the beginning, the cultural center has been used by various groups and associations from all over North and East Salling. There have been meetings and events with music and singing, exhibitions, pensioner groups and more.
A working bookbindery was set up on the first floor around 2010.
In the back of the building there is a working blacksmith’s shop in the square in front of the grocery store there is a carpenter’s workshop.
The association continues to run the cultural center in 2025.
