Thorkild Honum is a former horse breeder and manager of Skive trotting track.
After winning two races at the age of 16, Honum bought his first racehorse “Inge the Great”. The first racehorse he bred was “Thorkild Britton” in 1976, and until Honum retired in 2006, he bred a wide range of horses.
In particular, he became known for the horses with the surname “Guy”, 11 of which participated in the Danish Trotting Derby or Danish Mare Derby. Including “Good Guy” who won the derby in 2003.
In addition to his work with horses, Honum ran a chicken farm on Thorsvej in Skive for a number of years.
Thorkild Honum has a son, Vagn Honum, who is a speaker at horse races.
Skive trotting
Honum was associated with Skive Trav from its opening in 1948, where he worked as a string puller. In 1965, Honum was elected to the board of the racing association, where he was instrumental in keeping the racecourse in Skive after the former location was expropriated to Skive Kasserne. From 1976 to 1992, Honum was chairman of the board of the racecourse, a position he took over from Verner Femhøj.
