Thomsensgade

Thomsensgade began with the first buildings in the 1870s. In the 1880s, the street was founded when tanner Th. Thomsen subdivided land from his buildings in Nørregade. The street belonged to Skive Landsogn until April 1, 1925, when it, along with several other roads in Skivehus Skoledistrikt, was incorporated into the market town municipality.

At the Allégade/ Grønnegade intersection, Thomsensgade turns into Odgårdsvej, as the road from Thomsensgade to Ny Skivehus was named in 1905.

In 2024, the east gable of the property was decorated by artist Eske Touborg with Skive’s second gable painting. The motif – showing a child playing on a sandy beach with summer and blue sky – aligns with the overall theme “Nature in the city”.

Thomsensgade 14 – 16 (Ny Skivehus grounds, cadastral number 7d):
The nursery with the dairy building from 1911 behind it.

No. 14 was built together with no. 16 as twin houses.

At Thomsensgade 14 and on the large plot behind and down towards Thorupsgade, Skive Blomstergartneri was owned by H. P. Pedersen and later his son Viggo Pedersen. In 1911, land was subdivided from the site for the expansion of the dairy.

The nursery closed around 1969. The nursery was demolished in 1970. The municipality bought the land from Viggo Pedersen’s widow after his death.

In the early 1980s, the city council decided that a new main library should be built on the nursery site, but not until the construction of senior housing on Møllegade had been completed. The library on Thomsensgade never materialized.

In 1993, the library moved to the old Kvickly buildings in Asylgade instead. On the nursery site, non-profit housing was built with 12 two-storey apartment blocks with approx. 48 apartments, located along a shortcut from Thomsensgade, which came to be called Gartnerjorden.

The section facing Thorupsgade is a section of Bomiva consisting of 12 semi-detached houses built in 1992 – 93, all on two levels with 4 apartments in each semi-detached house. The section is elderly housing, which is allocated via visitation from Skive Municipality.

Thomsensgade 18 (Ny Skivehus land cadastral no. 7ab)

Skive Andelsmejeri was located here from its founding in 1893. In 1911, the dairy was expanded by building behind and perpendicular to the first dairy. In 1970, Skive Andelsmejeri was merged with Danelykke in Hem and in the following years with a large part of Salling’s dairies to form Skiveegnens Mejeriselskab SMS. Dairy operations continued until September 1986, when the dairy was closed following a merger with Mejeriselskabet Danmark (MD Foods). The dairy building from 1911 was then converted into the “Smørhullet” condominiums.
