The rag sailor: Tarri’s Mill

At Fur Museum stands a mill. It is a so-called rag sailor. A type of mill that could be set up for a manageable amount of money.

The mill dates from around 1900. It first stood on an unknown property on Fur, then it was re-erected on Dalagervej. From here it was bought in 1939 by Christian Tarri and moved to his farm on Bette Jensesvej. Tarri chose to put the mill next to his farm buildings, unlike where it had stood before. Therefore, a small “machine house” was built at the bottom, covered with formwork boards and roofing felt. The machine house has a small grinder and an outlet for a vertical shaft that could drive machines in the barn. Tarri’s mill was the last rag sailing mill on Fuur in active use.

In 1993 Ole Tarri donated the mill to Fur Museum.
