Svend Sohn politician, based in his home region of Fur and Nordsalling. Sohn served as radical mayor of Sundsøre municipality 1970-1982.
Sohn was born and raised on Fur from an old island family. Here he farmed for many years,
Sohn married Elisabeth “Lis” Sohn in 1950, and together they had three sons – Thorkild, Gunnar and Vagn. Sohn volunteered for many years for the Aakjær company as a cashier and was a force behind the takeover of Jenle. For his work, Sohn was awarded the Knight of the Dannebrog.
Political life
Sohn’s political life started in 1958 when he became a member and chairman of Fur Parish Council, a position he held until 1966. During Sohn’s presidency, Fur was greatly developed with a new central school, asphalting of the roads and a new ferry.
After a short break from politics, he ran for the municipal council of the new Sundsøre municipality in 1970, where he was elected mayor after a competitive election. He was generally well liked as mayor, although there was criticism that too much money was spent and too many loans taken out.
Sohn chose to retire as mayor and from municipal politics for the 1982 election, but continued in Viborg County Council where he served two terms until he chose to retire in 1985.
