“Skive’s 11 Stars” is an artwork consisting of 11 parts, set up on roundabouts around Skive. Designed by Timothy Jacob Jensen for Jacob Jensen Design, the artwork was inaugurated in 2006.
Inauguration
Skive City Council was the driving force behind the project, especially with then Mayor Per B. Jeppesen and city councilor Niels Holck in the lead. The city council initiated a process and raised money from the private sector for the sculptures. In total, the project cost 8 million, half of which was for the construction of the roundabouts and half for the artworks themselves.
All the artworks were installed on the night of June 22-23, ready to be inaugurated together.
Many Skive companies have participated in the construction, in addition to Jacob Jensen Design who designed the sculptures, Nordisk Granit and Dommerby Stål, among others.
Many of the individual sculptures have a close relationship to each other, where the two sculptures are each other’s opposites, or tell a unified story.
Significance for the city’s traffic
In order to install art in roundabouts, an exemption was required due to fears that artworks can be distracting. However, there have been no traffic accidents caused by the art.
By making the art pieces part of the roundabouts, it will be necessary to rearrange the individual parts such as roads and roundabouts. The art pieces “Is”, “More” and “Less” are set to be moved in connection with the redesign of Holstebrovej. The art piece “Vestenvinden” is also set to be moved.
The 11 part elements
