Salling Margarine Factory and Egg Export

Michael Pedersen (April 22, 1892 – 1963) was born on Mors. He was trained as a bricklayer and went to the USA to see other conditions. He started Salling Margarinefabrik og Ægeksport and was for a time co-owner of Skivehus Asfalt-og Tagpapfabrik. Michael Pedersen was active in the resistance.

Production start and expansion

After 7 years in America, Michael Pedersen returned home and started Salling Margarinefabrik with his wife in 1922 at Vindevej 2.

He combined the margarine factory with egg exports. When the factory’s five trucks left with margarine in the morning, they returned home with eggs later in the day. He made an agreement with a Danish agent Randrup in London to export the eggs.

Salling ægeksport had a contract with all the local chicken farms via the Association of Commercial Chicken Farms in Salling and Fjends Herred to buy their eggs and for several years had a contract to supply eggs to Skive Hospital.

For a while, Salling Margarinefabrik had ice cream production, but in 1929 sold the ice cream department to Rønbjerg Is.

Skivehus Asfalt- og Tagpapfabrik

1. on August 1934, Michael Pedersen joined Skivehus Asfalt- og Tagpapfabrik together with Poul Møller, and in their hands the factory was renewed. In the 50s, Michael Pedersen had to step down due to illness.

The resistance movement

During the war, Michael Pedersen joined the resistance movement and when Poul Møller had to go into hiding, Pedersen acted as a kind of “secretary” for Poul Møller.

6. on March 1945, manufacturer M. Pedersen, Salling Margarine Factory, was arrested. Friends and family managed to empty his safe deposit box of compromising pounds and dollars.

He was held in custody until May 5, 1945

Sale of the margarine factory

In January 1966, Salling Margarine Factory was sold to fruit wholesaler Karl Christensen, Voldgade. The premises were to be used for the fruit wholesale business.

Local involvement

Michael Pedersen was a radical and sat on the equation commission for the party for 8 years.

Michael Pedersen was a member of Salling Bank’s Board of Representatives from 1934 – 1961.
