Queen Margrethe II’s visit to Skive: After Queen Margrethe II became Queen of Denmark in 1972 and until her abdication, she officially visited the city 6 times. However, it should be mentioned that the Queen visited the city several times when Frederik IX was still king.

The visit in 1978 Inauguration of the Sallingsund Bridge

The Queen’s first visit took place on May 30, 1978, when she and Prince Henrik officially opened the Sallingsund Bridge. Construction of the bridge began in 1973 and lasted 5 years. After the ceremonial trip over the bridge, lunch was served at Glyngørehallen.

The visit in 1982 Flag inauguration

The second official visit from Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II took place on October 7, 1982, when the Regent couple visited Skive Barracks to inaugurate a flag for the Nørrejyske Artillery Regiment, whose old flag from 1958 had become too worn to be used any longer.

The visit, which lasted 4 hours, started with The Queen and The Prince Consort arriving by helicopter from Værløse Air Base.

When a flag is inaugurated, three nails are driven in, one for the majesty, one for the fatherland and one for the recipient. Each nail is driven by a different person, in this case it was: First nail the Queen, second nail General Knud Jørgensen, third nail Chief of the Western Regional Command H.T. Havning.

Skive’s mayor Knud Olsen and county mayor P.E. Eriksen participated from the civilian side.

Although it was a very rainy day, there was a large turnout of interested citizens, around 1500 came to see. Including many children, who were typically allowed by the schools to go down there.

The visit in 1994 Skive city

On September 2, 1994, The Queen visited Skive again, this time visiting many places in Skive. The visit started with the royal ship Dannebrog docking in Skive harbor. After a tour through the city, the royal couple visited several places in Skive: the production college, Skive Museum, Our Lady Church, and Skive City Hall, as well as Prince Consort Henrik at Skive Slaughterhouse.

His Majesty was accompanied by Mayor Jonna Stavnsbjerg.

All in all, the visit lasted around 7 hours.

The visit in 2007 Visit Skive city and Salling

On September 14, 2007, the Queen and the Prince Consort visited Skive again. As in 1994, as part of the summer tours with the Royal Yacht Dannebrog, where they were welcomed by more than 1000 interested people. The royal couple were accompanied by Mayor Flemming Eskild.

A visit to the new library in Skive, which was also officially inaugurated by the mayor. In addition, several places in Skive and Salling were visited:

During the visit, the new flag of the Total Defense Region of Central Jutland was inaugurated. With the first nail driven by The Queen, the second by Major General Jan S. Norgaard and the third by Major General Poul Kiærskou

At Posttorvet, tents were set up where ingredients from Salling and Nordfjends were used to prepare food for tasting. A total of 11 dishes were prepared (as a symbol of the artwork “Skive’s 11 Stars”). Prince Henrik himself participated in the preparation of a fish soup.

In connection with the visit, a Shu-bi-dua concert was organized in connection with the visit, but without participation.

The visit in 2012 Flag inauguration

On September 1, 2012, the Queen visited Skive Barracks, the Home Guard departments in Central Jutland and North Jutland had been merged. Therefore, there was another flag dedication this time with 2 nails by Minister of Defense Nick Hækkerup and the third nail by Major General Finn Winkler.

The 2017 visit Flag inauguration

Queen Margrethe II’s last official visit to Skive as regent was on May 2, 2017. This time too, the occasion was a flag inauguration. This time in connection with the merger of the home guard regions Totalforsvarsregion Nord- og Midtjylland and Totalforsvarsregion Fyn, Syd- og Sønderjylland. The new region was named Landsdelsregion Vest. The visit was of a short nature.

In the flag, two nails were hammered in by Deputy Chief of Defense Kenneth Pedersen and the third nail by Major General Finn Winkler.

The visit was also attended by Mayor Peder Christian Kirkegaard.
