Østerbro

Østerbro emerged as an urban area in the 1870s, after the railroad to Viborg was built. They did not want to bring the railroad into the city due to the difficulties of Karup Å and the surrounding wetlands. The station was therefore located east of the town. The area previously consisted of meadows and the river delta created by the three river courses. Before the expansion of industry and incorporation into the city, the area was called Skive Holme.

The first major project was Skive’s new iron foundry, which was built there in 1880. After this, other industries grew up. In 1887, the area was incorporated into the city of Skive.
