Marinus Nielsen is one of Skive’s oldest existing stores. The store opened in 1902 and still exists today under the name Tøjeksperten.
Marinus Nielsens Garn- og Trikotageforretning
In 1902, Marinus Nielsen opened a grocery store in Thinggade at the address Thinggade 1, where the royal granary used to be, i.e. where the royal taxes in kind were stored. In these premises, Marinus Nielsen set up a yarn and knitwear shop selling a large selection of ready-made men’s clothing, hats, caps and caps.

Marinus Nielsen through time
The shop in Thinggade changed appearance many times over the years. Below are a number of pictures of Marinus Nielsen’s menswear store over the years:

In the 1930s, functionalism took hold and the shop windows became larger and simpler. His son Bjarne Nielsen took over the business in 1948, but the name Marinus Nielsen was retained. Which can also be seen on the facade of Marinus Nielsen in the 1950s:

In the 1960s, the facade got a facelift with a new and more modern look. At the same time, Bjarne Nielsen’s son Erik Nielsen began working in the store. He took over the business in 1978, as the third generation of the Nielsen family.

With the demolition of Olsens Gård at Rådhustorvet in 1968, the municipality was faced with the choice between establishing parking spaces or building a new building on the site. In the end, Bjarne Nielsen was allowed to build the building that still stands today. The building still houses a men’s clothing store. As mentioned, it was his son Erik who benefited from the new premises and the new location in the center of Posthustovet. Erik Nielsen’s son Steen B. Nielsen became director of the limited liability company behind Marinus Nielsen in 1995, making him the fourth generation. Marinus Nielsen has since merged with Tøjeksperten.
