Løve Apoteket Skive – Det Gamle Apotek

Løve Apoteket Skive is Skive’s oldest pharmacy. Originally known simply as Skive Apotek, then Det gamle apotek and finally Løve Apoteket.

In theory, Skive was granted a pharmacy in 1712 due to a plague epidemic. However, it is uncertain whether a pharmacy existed during this period, at least it was not something more permanent.

In 1801, Viborg pharmacist Peter Valeur ran the pharmacy perhaps already here from Slotsgade 2, where the pharmacy was located for many years. In 1810, the manager Siemens bought the pharmacy and from then on, the pharmacy is known with certainty to have been located at this address.

It served as the town’s only pharmacy until 1918, when Svaneapoteket (Skive Ny Apotek) was allowed to open on Nørregade. After that, the pharmacy was often referred to as the old pharmacy.

In connection with the construction of Posthuset, on what would become Posthustorvet, the old pharmacy building was demolished and the pharmacy moved to the corner of Adelgade and Thinggade

The area is still known today as Apotekerhaven.

In 2015, Løveapoteket was moved from Adelgade to the Posthus building on Posthustorvet. In a way, the pharmacy has moved back to the address where it was located over 200 years ago.
