On September 16, 1932, Skive-Vestsalling Railway decided to invest in a large area at Knud Strand. The idea was to develop the area into an attractive recreational area for the citizens of Skive. The real idea behind the investment was to bring passengers and revenue to the railroad, which suffered financially in the 1930s.

The first bathing train ran in June 1932. The event was a success. But people didn’t just come by train, many traveled by car or bicycle.

With the success and the many people came a need for catering and toilet facilities. Therefore, in 1933, Skive-Vestsalling Railway built a pavilion and two toilet buildings. In addition, a well and a safe staircase down to the beach were established. At the same time, the owner of Balling Afholdshotel, Georg Panduro, had a pavilion built for entertainment, food and drink.

In addition to the initiatives of the railway and the hotel owner, the local swimming association contributed by having a 175-meter long jetty built in 1933. There was a close family bond between the club and the railroad. Several schools also decided to hold sports events at Knud Strand.

In 1934, the first summer cottages were built on the railroad’s land, which were rented out to the cottage builders.

The beach is still a popular destination today, but the Skive-Vestsalling railway, which started the success story, saw their bathing trains abandoned in favor of cars during the 1950s. The last bathing train ran in 1961. The land was sold to Rødding municipality.
