Jens Mellerup was a member of Skive City Council and a figure in Indre Missions’ work in Skive.
Mellerup was born in Hammer Parish near Aalborg. After moving to Skive, he worked as a grocer until around 1930, when he changed jobs to be a bookkeeper for Fællesbageriet in Skive.
In the period 1925-33, Mellerup was elected to Skive City Council for the indremissionist list “Upolitisk liste”. After he was elected as non-political, he refused to take a position on who should be appointed mayor, which meant that a majority could not be created for who should be elected. In the end, Michael Nielsen was re-elected as mayor by lot. Especially towards the end of the election period, Mellerup worked together with the Social Democrats on its brand areas within the social and school policy area.
Mellerup held several positions of trust in Skive. Mellerup was one of the founders of “Sømandshjemmet” and was chairman of the home for a number of years. He also served on the board of K.F.U.M. in Skive as treasurer.
Mellerup was married twice, to Eline and Andrea respectively. He had three children, two sons who moved to America and a daughter.
