The property at Havnevej 7, Matr. 13 b Skive Markjorder, was built in 1905 as the Beværterforeningens Stiftelse for needy older colleagues and their wives. Beværterforeningen was founded on October 1, 1884. The property, designed by Isidor von Essen, is prominently located on the corner of Havnevej and Kielgastvej, and the harmonious facade is visible at the end of the sloping path as you walk up through the grounds from the fountain. The west gable has been decorated with gable painting in 2025.
The history of the building

5. in August 1905, Skive’s Beværterforening petitioned the municipality for a free building plot at ‘Havnevejen’ to be made available for a foundation. The city council had the so-called Hemmers legacy land and on March 2, 1905, the city council approved an application to the ministry to make 1000 square meters available for a foundation. On March 22, 1905, the Ministry of the Interior granted permission.
17. a tender for the building was held in June 1905. The construction costs amounted to 13239 DKK. In October 1905, the foundation stone was laid and a document with information about the city’s leading men, the names of the Beværterforening’s board, contractor and architect was engraved.
Everyone was thanked for their contribution to the construction of the house. It was expected to have the house under roof by November 1 and completed by April 1, 1906. Jan. 1906 it was announced for rental of 2 rooms. two of the apartments were rented out with a small piece of garden.
6. on April 1, 1906, the association held a party at Hotel Phønix to celebrate the completion of the Foundation. The chairman thanked everyone who had contributed to a good result, first the City Council for giving free land, then gasworks master Essen for having made the drawing for the building available free of charge, then all contributors and craftsmen.
The foundation contained 6 apartments in the size of 55 – 61 m2. In the early years, there were retiring rows in the outbuilding, but in 1932 water closets were installed.
Over time, the Foundation was able to follow the easements and provide free or semi-free apartments for needy colleagues and their wives.
The foundation’s statutes stated that it had the right to collect the tax from tents in the Market Square. In 1915, the City Council banned the serving of spirits in the marketplace and the foundation lost income. They therefore applied to the city council for DKK 100 in compensation for the tax, but this was not granted.
The fate of the house
In 1970, there were very few members left in Beværterforeningen, as new restaurateurs in Skive did not want to be forced to organize. The association’s then treasurer from Landmandshotellet resigned and handed over cash books and minutes to director Knud Willemoes, formerly of Hotel Royal. The association had a bank book of DKK 18,000 and the property on Havnevej, which was valued at DKK 100,000. Only DKK 4,000 was owed on the property.
In 1973, Knud Willemoes had moved out of town and there had been no activity in the association for several years. It was unclear what would happen to the foundation. In August 1973, Beværterforeningen was refounded. It has not been possible to find further newspaper coverage.
According to papers on the municipality’s web storage, the property was traded in 1985, and in 1999 the then owner HUK, Stoholm, carried out fire protection of the apartments. The property is owned by the company Vandsø ApS.
