Fur Ø’s Spare- og Laanekasse, was a savings bank from Fur that existed from 1873 to 2006.
Established on Fur on April 16, 1983, operations began the following year. The savings bank was eagerly used by the locals. The close relationship between the managers and the bank’s funds caused problems when it was discovered in 1911 that the chairman, Christen Jeppesen, had embezzled from the savings bank. Jeppesen’s bankruptcy created problems in the savings bank, which changed the way it operated and the possibilities for loans.
Until 1942, the savings bank did not have a permanent building, but rented space in various locations, primarily in the yard of the bank’s business manager. There was a desire to have a more permanent arrangement, and in 1942 the savings bank bought a house that was adapted for the purpose. There had been talk of building a new building for the purpose, but the more modest framework of the purchased house was satisfactory. In 1969, construction began on new premises for the savings bank, designed by architect Henry Pedersen from Kjellerup.
In the run-up to the war, a large part of the savings bank’s business took place in Salling, which is perhaps why they jokingly considered changing the name of the savings bank.
With the merger with Morsø-sparekasse in 2006, the local savings bank ceased to exist. The bank’s equity was transferred to two foundations for non-profit purposes.
