Fodmosen is a small lake located near Vadum south of Spøttrup Sø on the Limfjord coast. The small freshwater lake is so close to the Limfjord that it is very threatened by coastal retreat, and there has been a popular debate about coastal protection at the lake.
Up until the 1980s, there had been a small grove around the forest, but it was cut down and the trees disappeared.
After a storm in 1981, the coast was damaged and the existing coastal protection was destroyed. Spøttrup Municipality made new coastal protection of tiles, but there was a protest from the Forest and Nature Agency, which did not want tiles but natural stone. The municipality felt that this was far too costly. In 1999, Spøttrup Municipality abandoned coastal protection in the area as it would be too expensive.
In 1994, the nearby and much larger Spøttrup Lake was restored, and it is possible that some of the lake’s water birds have moved there.
