Alex Lind was the Social Democratic mayor of Spøttrup Municipality 1986-1997.
Political life
In 1978, Lind was elected to Spøttrup municipal council as the leading candidate for the Social Democrats. In 1986, Lind became mayor after succeeding in gaining a majority and Aksel Pedersen had to resign.
As mayor, Lind was a co-founder of the association “Det skæve Danmark”, which worked for increased redistribution to the poorer municipalities. Lind served as chairman of the organization all the years he was mayor. Securing peripheral areas and decentralization were key issues for Lind. In addition, he always worked to ensure that there was plenty of financial leeway in the municipal coffers.
Lind decided to step down as mayor himself. After becoming mayor, Lind was elected to the county council and served until the abolition of the counties in 2007.
Private life
Lind grew up in Blåhøj near Brande. He trained as a teacher at Herning Seminarium. After graduating, he took a trip around looking for jobs, fell in love with the Salling region, and was employed at Rødding School in 1968.
Lind was married to Anna Marie and had three children, including politician Annette Lind.
In his spare time, Lind loved soccer.
In 2005 Lind was awarded a Knight’s Cross.
