Aage Aspel (1931-2019)

Aage Aspel was a seminary lecturer and organizer of Skive’s connections to Christianshåb, as well as a general advocate for children’s conditions.

Aspel was born in Råsted near Holstebro. He was educated in Skive, where he also taught first at the Aakjær School and later at Skive Seminary.

In Skive, he is probably best known for spearheading a project in which Greenlandic children from Christianshåbs were given a stay in Skive, a project that resulted in visits from more than 1000 children over the years. In this way, Aspel tried to work for cultural exchange. This work helped earn him the “City of the Year Award” in 1979.

In general, children’s conditions and nature were central to Aspel, where he, for example, worked for the Skive municipality’s camp school in Thy, and the opportunities it provided to provide nature experiences for children.

In addition, he was politically active in the Radical Left Party, where he was chairman of the electoral association for a time. This work linked him to Skive Folkeblad, where he sat on the board for many years, for some of the period as vice chairman of the board.

Aage Aspel was responsible for the Aspel Circle, which for a number of years published “A greeting from the Aspel Circle”, informative work on a wide range of topics.

Aage Aspel was married to Irma Aspel.
