A terrible accident
Randi Sandholt, Charlotte Sandholt, Steen Sandholt, Mona Larsen and Hanne Christensen died in a traffic accident on July 8, 1986 on Highway 26 at the bridge that carries Næstildvej over the highway.
The circumstances
Randi Sandholt was the driver of a passenger car. She suddenly lost control of her car, which for unexplained reasons crossed to the wrong side of the highway, where it hit a van. In addition to Randi Sandholt, the car contained her three children Charlotte Sandholt (13 years), Steen Sandholt (10 years) and Mona Larsen (7 months) and their Copenhagen holiday child Hanne Christensen (16 years).
In the van were two craftsmen, who were both injured. The same happened to a woman driving behind, who probably hit one of the two crashed cars.
Police description
– This is the most horrific accident I have seen in my many years in Skive. This is how Police Commissioner Kaj Nielsen, Skive Police, described the horrific accident to Skive Folkeblad. Although Highway 26, which was opened to traffic in the mid-1970s, had caused several fatal accidents, the accident in July 1986 was the worst so far with five deaths.
The funeral
Randi Sandholt and her three children lived in Jebjerg, but the family chose to have Randi Sandholt and her children buried at Skive Cemetery. Randi Sandholt’s parents were from Skive and her grandparents were buried at Skive Cemetery. The funeral took place on July 14, 1986 and was attended by family, friends and acquaintances, as well as the children’s teachers and classmates from Jebjerg Central School
