Photographers in Skive (sorted alphabetically)
The first edition of Skive Avis was published on Monday, May 10, 1858. The first advertisements about portrait photography were from travel photographers who typically stayed at one of the city’s inns for a short period of time and were in town for 1-2 weeks, offering their photographic skills.
On May 28, 1858, travel photographer J. Ussing has an ad in a Skive newspaper offering “Daguerreotype” portraits, which is probably the earliest ad of its kind in a Skive newspaper. In 1859 and 1860 an R. C. Melgard, and a C. Poulsen were also seen as traveling photographers advertising their skills in Skive Avis. Established photographers did not appear until around 1860-1865, when J.J. Mortensen and B. A. Vorbeck were some of the earliest.
