Hans Jørgen Sørensen is a former accountant, as well as a local politician and mayor of Sallingsund municipality for a local list for Durup.
Sørensen was elected mayor after Folmer Andersen died in office and the municipal council did not want 1st Deputy Mayor Helga Tang to serve the remaining four months. Sørensen believed he was elected because he was an innocuous choice as he did not want to run for the conciliatory election and was one of the more anonymous figures in the municipal council.
