A.E. Alstrup (1832-1908)

A.E. Alstrup was a master shoemaker and responsible for security in Skive.

He participated in the Second Schleswig War in 1864, including at the Battle of Dybbøl. Soldiering meant a lot to Alstrup, and he later used it in his duties in Skive. In 1907, Alstrup was awarded the Dannebrog for his bravery at the battle.

Alstrup became a master shoemaker in Skive from 1857, when he was also granted citizenship in Skive. That same year he became chief of the Skive police force, a position he held until 1892.

As head of the police corps and as a lieutenant, he was in charge of the Skive citizen’s army, a kind of reserve force that trained itself and other citizens for the defense of the country. The difference between citizen army, police corps and fire corps was generally limited at this time, in a city the size of Skive.

Alstrup married Magdalene Alstrup (born Wiese) on May 10, 1857.
