Gunnar Willy Christensen (1916-1997)

Gunnar Willy Christensen was a decorator at and later owner of“Edvard Jensen” clothing store in Thinggade in Skive.

Christensen was born in Ringsted, where he trained as a decorator. He was first employed as a decorator at the age of 19 in Holstebro, then in Nykøbing Mors, and finally from 1937 in “Edvard Jensen” in Skive.

As a decorator at “Edvard Jensen”, Christensen, along with 12 others, won a nationwide competition in connection with King Christian X’s birthday in 1940 to have the most beautifully decorated shop windows.

After the owner’s death in 1943, his widow took over the business. After the widow also died young in 1947, the business was bequeathed to Christensen and his wife in exchange for the name “Edvard Jensen” being retained.

The couple ran “Edvard Jensen” until 1980, when they sold the business to Carsten Riemenschneider.

In 1941, Christensen married Bitten, with whom he had two sons. In addition to working in the store, Christensen was active in the odd-fellow lodge “Erik Holst”
