Skive Children’s Film Club

Skive Børnefilmklub was a film club for children that existed from 1952 to 2012. Later changed its name to Skive Børne- og Ungdomsfilmklub.

The association was founded on November 7, 1952, as a subdivision of Skive Film Club.

From the beginning, the organization was a member of “Danske Børne- og Ungdomsfilmklubber”, which was also founded in 1952. The association was run by volunteers and without any kind of profit motive. In addition to entertainment, the purpose was to select educational films for the children – for example, traffic propaganda was suggested in the newspaper.

Skive Film Club had held their own screenings at the temperance hotel, but due to the many children who wanted to participate, they collaborated with the local cinemas in the city.

The first screening took place on December 7, 1952 in Kosmorama, with a speech by the club’s patron, Mayor Woldhardt Madsen.

In 2009, when KCL went bankrupt, the cinema club also had to stop temporarily. In 2011, disagreements arose with Skive’s only remaining cinema Cinema3 in KCL. The new owners did not want to continue the cooperation under the previous terms but demanded a very large amount from the children’s film club. Cinema3 instead set up their own commercial children’s film club.

For a while, Skive Children’s Film Club screened their films in the auditorium at Skive Seminarium, but in May 2012 the club ceased due to dwindling membership due to competition from the cinema’s own children’s film club.
