Kirkegade was a historic street in Skive, built in 1843 and demolished in 1969. The street was located up the hill towards Vor Frue Kirke, down towards Reberbanen. The street was demolished little by little to accommodate traffic and to build a new vicarage. When the last houses were to be demolished, there was some debate about removing another part of the old city.
Business etc.
In the street, in addition to the houses, there was a small complex and over time a number of private schools. These included “Hasselriis School” Skive’s private secondary school, as well as a pogeskole (a type of private school for young children).
Skive marketplace was historically located in the area until 1868, when it was moved to Asylgade. The horse trade remained there until 1896, when it moved a short distance to Møllegade.
