In 1917,central manager Niels Børsting became the second central manager at the telephone exchange in Vinde. He died at the age of 30 and has a memorial stone at Skive Cemetery.
10 subscribers give Vinde a telephone exchange
Jydsk Telefon Aktieselskab, which ran the telephone service in Northern Jutland, made it a condition for setting up a telephone exchange that there were at least 10 subscribers. This goal was achieved in Vinde in 1915, and a telephone exchange was established with Sine Andersen as central manager.
On October 1, 1917, Niels Sørensen Børsting (May 25, 1893 – July 12, 1923), the son of a farmer from Øster Dølby, was hired as central manager. The switchboard was located in an apartment in the property Vindevej 106. Niels Børsting was formally the central manager, but the switchboard was probably looked after by his wife, Bodil Børsting.

The central office is shut down in the centralization
After Niels Børsting’s death at the age of 30, the position of central manager was taken over by Bodil Børsting, who managed the central office until April 1, 1939, when it was closed. At this time, there were 15 subscribers who belonged to the central office. The closure was part of an effort by JTAS to close the smallest telephone exchanges – an effort that in the 1930s not only affected the telephone exchange in Vinde.
Inner Mission
Niels Børsting and Bodil Børsting belonged to the Inner Mission, which gathered a small circle of families in Vinde. Bodil Børsting, who was widowed for 65 years, maintained her connection to the Inner Mission throughout her life and for many years was one of the most frequent participants in Inner Mission meetings and activities in Skive.
Niels was active in the Christian Danish Confederation
Niels Børsting was also involved in K.D.F. – Christian Danish Federation. K.D.F. was founded in connection with the Inner Mission in 1899. And on October 15 that year, a branch was founded in Skive. K.D.F. was opposed from the start by both trade and labor unions, but the Skive branch proved to be viable despite opponents who tried to keep K.D.F. members from participating in tenders, etc.
The memorial stone
Curious disagreement about the day of death
After Niels Børsting’s death, money was collected for a memorial stone on his grave at Skive Cemetery among “Family, Friends, Tel. subscribers, K.D.F.”
The memorial stone states 12.6. 1923 as the date of death – but the church register states 12.7. 1923, and the same date appears in an obituary in Skive Folkeblad.
