Lem Kæmpegård (or Lem Kæmpegaard) is a farm located at Sønder Lemvej 10. Lem Kæmpegaard was known for its scenic surroundings created by Lem Kæmpegård Plantage, and the farm was previously used as a gathering place for parties in the local area.
Lem Kæmpegård is the origin of the family name Kæmpegaard, which has included doctor in Skive Andreas Espersen Kæmpegaard.
The current farmhouse dates from 1957, but the oldest part of the farm is part of a barn from 1862. In 2005, the farm underwent a major renovation.
Plantation
The farm had a plantation that was used for constitutional celebrations, harvest festivals and school excursions. The first constitutional celebration was held in 1886, and after that the use of the farm’s land for public celebrations increased. The farm’s nature was described as something very special. The orchard was planted mostly by farm employee Just Andersen, who came to the farm in 1877, in collaboration with his wife Maren Kæmpegård. The garden was also described as being particularly beautiful.
After the Kæmpegaards no longer owned the farm, a pavilion was built so that the local population could make even greater use of the scenic surroundings.
Around the Occupation, the use of the plantation as a popular gathering place for the residents around Lem seems to diminish, with the last mention in Skive Folkeblad is in 1941, where the farm owner complains about the lack of cleanup from visitors on the farm’s land.
